Regardless of local or foreign players, golf in Cambodia requires a well-structured financial plan and thorough consideration. If you are wondering about Cambodia golf prices, read this article carefully. This blog will provide you with everything you need to know about how to budget your investment wisely for your golf holiday in this beautiful country.

Why to Golf in Cambodia?

If you’re bored with the usual golf trips to Thailand, Cambodia is finally starting to feel like a real alternative. It used to be an afterthought, but the scene there has changed. It’s not just that the courses are world-class; it’s the fact that you’re playing in the shadow of places like Angkor Wat. There’s something grounded about a round of golf when you’re surrounded by that much history.

I’ve talked to golfers who go for the scenery but stay for the value. Let’s be honest: golf is expensive. In Cambodia, your dollar actually breathes. Green fees are lower, caddies are great, and you can stay in a high-end hotel for a fraction of what you’d pay in Scottsdale or even Phuket.

The courses themselves like Vattanac or Phokeethra don’t feel like budget options, though. They’re manicured, professional, and usually come with all the trimmings, from decent pro shops to solid clubhouses. They’ve built these layouts to challenge people who actually play the game, not just tourists looking to hit a few balls.

The climate is your main hurdle. It’s a year-round destination, sure, but if you go in July, you’re going to be dealing with the heat and the rain. Most people aim for that “sweet spot” between November and March. It’s dry, the breeze is actually cool, and you won’t finish the 18th hole looking like you jumped in a pool.

It’s a weirdly perfect mix. You get the luxury of a premium golf resort, the chaos and beauty of Cambodian culture, and a bill at the end that doesn’t make you regret the trip. If you’re looking for a destination that feels like an actual escape rather than just another resort, this is it.

Cambodia Golf Prices

Generally, the cost of golf in Cambodia is quite affordable, but it can vary depending on the course, the time of year, and the services you choose. Here is a breakdown of the typical costs related to golf in Cambodia:

Green Fees

  • High-End Courses: Green fees of some premium golf courses such as the Angkor Golf Resort in Siem Reap or the Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club range from $80 to $150 per round (18 holes).
  • Mid-range Courses: Some courses include the Garden City Club in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club may have green fees ranging from $60 to $100 per round.
  • Budget-friendly Courses: Some lesser-known courses may offer green fees as low as $40 to $60 per round.

Caddie and Cart Fees

  • In Cambodia, a caddie isn’t a luxury, it’s mandatory. The base fee is usually $10 to $20, but remember that tipping is the standard here. Most players give an extra $10 to $15 at the end of the round. If you want a cart, that’ll add another $25 to $40 to your total.

Additional Costs

  • Food and Drinks: Clubhouse prices are actually quite reasonable. You can get a solid meal for $5 to $15 and a drink for just a few dollars.
  • Transportation: Don’t just hop in a random taxi without a plan. Depending on how far the course is from your hotel, a private transfer or taxi will cost you anywhere from $10 to $50 round trip.

Must-Go Golf Course in Cambodia

1. Angkor Golf Resort (High-End Courses)

This is one of the most prestigious golf courses in Cambodia. It offers a world-class golfing experience with well-maintained fairways, challenging water hazards, and a beautiful layout. The highlight of Angkor Golf Resort is the 18-hold championship course, and proximity to the Angkor Wat temples, making the golf experience exceptional and valuable. It also provides excellent services, professional caddies, and a luxurious clubhouse.

Green Fees: Approximately $100 to $150 per round.

2. Phokeethra Country Club (High-End Courses)

Phokeethra Country Club is the place to go if you want a round that feels uniquely Cambodian. It’s a par-72 course, but the real draw isn’t just the yardage, it’s the fact that you’re playing over and around actual history. There’s an ancient Khmer bridge restored right on the course that serves as a pretty cool reminder of where you are.

It’s definitely a premium spot, and they’ve hosted the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open there, so the conditions are usually top-tier. Just watch out for the water hazards; they’re everywhere and they’ll ruin your scorecard if you aren’t careful. It’s a strange, great experience to be lining up a putt in a place that feels that old.

Green Fees: Approximately $90 to $130 per round.

3. Garden City Golf Club (Mid-Range Course)

Garden City Golf Club is about 15 kilometers outside Phnom Penh, and it’s probably the best bet if you want a high-end feel without the massive price tag of the city’s ultra-premium resorts. It’s a modern, well-kept spot that hits a nice middle ground, it feels professional but isn’t intimidatingly expensive.

The 18-hole layout is actually pretty tough. You’re dealing with plenty of bunkers, water hazards that come into play more than you’d like, and greens that have a lot of movement to them. It’s designed to test low handicappers, but it’s still manageable if you’re just out for a casual Saturday round. They have all the standard gear too, like a solid driving range and practice greens to warm up on. The clubhouse is modern and the food is actually decent, which makes it a good place to grab a meal and hide from the heat after you finish your round.

Green Fees: Approximately $70 to $100 per round.

4. Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club (Budget-Friendly)

People still call this one Angkor Lake Resort sometimes, but whatever the name, Booyoung is basically the best value play in Siem Reap. It’s a par-72 course that is actually fun to play because the fairways are wide enough that you aren’t spending your whole afternoon hunting for balls in the brush. That said, the water hazards are definitely there, and they’ll catch you if you start getting careless.

It’s not a “cheap” course in terms of quality, just in terms of the bill. The caddies are helpful, the layout flows well, and it’s a legitimate 18-hole test. If you want to spend your money on a nice dinner in town rather than a $150 green fee, this is where you play. It’s just a straightforward, honest round of golf.

Green Fees: Approximately $50 to $80 per round.

5. Royal Cambodian Phnom Penh Golf Club (Budget-Friendly)

Royal Cambodian is basically the “no-frills” option for golf in Phnom Penh. It’s located out by the airport, which sounds like a trek, but the payoff is that it’s rarely packed. You can actually breathe out there and play a round without feeling like you’re on an assembly line.

The layout is flat and pretty forgiving, so it’s a good spot for beginners or anyone who just wants a casual, easy-going day. It’s not the most glamorous course in the country, but it’s affordable and quiet. If you’re tired of the high-stakes feel of the premium resorts and just want a relaxed atmosphere where you can focus on your swing, this is the place to do it.

Green Fees: Approximately $40 to $60 per round.

Tips to Budget Your Cambodia Golf Costs

Honestly, the best way to save money on a Cambodian golf trip is to ignore the “high season” hype. Everyone wants to go in December, but you’re going to pay a premium for it. If you’re okay with a little sweat, go in May or June. The courses are actually lusher and greener because of the rain, and you can often find “low season” rates that are 30% cheaper.

Another thing: stop booking individual rounds. If you just show up at a course like Garden City, you’re paying the “sucker price.” Look for a local agent or check the course’s Facebook page for “Stay & Play” deals. You can often find packages where the hotel throw-in is basically free if you’re playing three rounds.

Also, watch the weekend rates. In Phnom Penh especially, the courses get packed with locals on Saturdays, and the prices jump. If you can swing a weekday round, do it. You’ll save enough on the green fee to pay for your caddie tip and a few post-round Angkor beers. It’s a no-brainer.

Prepare your meals and drinks: Dining and beverages on golf courses can be expensive than the typical costs. Therefore, you can bring your snacks, and sports drinks to avoid paying premium prices at the courses.

Research promotions and deals: There are often promotions, deals, and coupon codes offered on the website golf courses. You should follow the golf courses’ website or social media to collect these discount for budget saving.

Avoid over-tipping: While tipping is customary for caddies in Cambodia, you should avoid over-tipping. A reasonable tip for a caddie is usually between $10 to $15 per round. Bear in mind the local tipping culture and standard practices to minimize your budget.

Consider local transportation options: You can use local transportation such as tuk-tuks instead of private cars or taxis to save you money. But remember to negotiate the fare upfront or use the bike-order apps to avoid being overcharged.

In conclusion, golf in Cambodia can range from a modest investment to a more luxurious experience, depending on your preference. By planning carefully and understanding all costs involved, you can relax and enjoy your holiday without worrying about financial issues.
