The Waterfront City area of Batam Island is home to Batam Hills Golf Resort, which was formerly known as Paradise Bay Golf Club and underwent renovations in 2006. While the golf course used to be poorly maintained in the past, recent improvements have resulted in much better conditions. The greens are made of Bermuda grass, while the fairways are made of local Serangoon.
Batam Hills Golf Resort comprises two distinct 9-hole loops. The front nine meanders through the jungle and features mostly tree-lined fairways, while the back nine crosses open space and has significant fairway mounding.
Although Batam Hills is easily walkable, the included golf carts are a welcome addition. Caddies, who are well-trained like at other Indonesia golf courses, contribute to the overall experience and enjoyment. The clubhouse provides standard golf services, including a pro shop, lockers, restaurant, and massage services, and is welcoming. A variety of Indonesian, Japanese, and Western dishes are available at reasonable prices. The adjacent Batam Hills Golf Resort lounge has excellent views of the golf course and is an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a drink after a round.
