Established in 1889 by a group of thirteen passionate golfers, the Hong Kong Golf Club (HKGC) was initially located in Happy Valley. In 1996, ahead of the handover, the club dropped the “Royal” from its name. Since 1959, the HKGC has proudly served as the venue for the Hong Kong Open.
Known for its exclusivity, the waiting list to become a member of this prestigious golf club is rumored to be around 20 years. Li Ka-shing, a local resident who resides just minutes away, is said to be the first on the Deep Water Bay course every morning.
Visitors are welcome to play at Deep Water Bay on weekdays, excluding public holidays, from 9 am to 2 pm. If applicable, visitors must present a handicap certificate. It’s important to note that tipping caddies is not allowed, and there is a strict dress code in place.
The facilities at HKGC include the nine-hole Deep Water Bay golf course and three 18-hole golf courses at Fanling. Additionally, the club offers coaching, a pro shop, a practice range, a gym, a pool, a sauna, and a mahjong room. Furthermore, the Fanling location provides overnight accommodation and separate bars for men and women.
